What is Cosmelan/Dermamelan?

Developed in Spain, Cosmelan and Dermamelan are two individual peels that treat pigmentation. It will be decided by your clinician which one is the right treatment for you.

They are a highly innovative system that gently targets and treats unwanted pigmentation on the face and body. The two-phase intensive treatment programme firstly involves the application of a highly potent depigmenting mask. This is applied at the clinic and it is not washed off for up to (4 hours Dermamelan) and (8-12 hours Cosmelan) following application (dependent on skin type).

The second treatment phase is an at-home maintenance solution that is applied twice daily to enhance the effects of the mask.

This safe and non-invasive procedure treats the source of pigment formation to deliver a rapidly clearer, brighter and more clarified complexion without the use of lasers.

PREPARATION FOR YOUR COSMELAN OR DERMAMELAN PEEL

Both peels requires preparation. The length of preparation is dependant on your skin type which will be decided by your clinician. It is vital to use the preparation serums to optimise results and protect your skin to prevent further damage for a minimum of 2-4 weeks. The important steps to be taken will be discussed during your consultation.

IS IT PAINFUL?

Cosmelan and Dermamelan are not painful. The peels may feel slightly more active on the skin after a few hours and up to the first 30 days. You may feel heat, stinging or other similar sensations. However, it is not painful.

ARE THERE ANY RISKS INVOLVED?

Cosmelan and Dermamelan are safe procedures with minimal risks. If before and after care is not followed correctly by the patient, side effects may occur.

PRE & POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS

• Avoid excessive exercising and sweating before and after your treatment by 14 days.

• Avoid saunas, hot baths, or spas for 7 days after your treatment.

• Avoid solariums and spray tans for 30 days after your treatment.

• Avoid direct sun exposure for 30 days before & after treatment. Use an SPF 50+ daily (included in your Homecare pack).

• Avoid swimming in chlorinated or salt pools for 14 days post treatment.

• Avoid IPL, microdermabrasions, lasers, and chemical peels for 8-12 weeks after treatment.

• Avoid Make Up Application for up to 7 days post treatment.

• Avoid the use of active ingredients, exfoliants and scrubs on the skin for 14 days post treatment.

• Avoid picking and peeling any flakes. Avoid scratching the skin.

• Apply the aftercare given by our team in your Take Home Pack. It is vital to ensure the skin is hydrated during the healing period.

WHAT WILL MY SKIN LOOK LIKE AFTER THE TREATMENT?

Immediately post treatment the skin will appear red and will feel sunburnt. The redness can last anywhere from 48-72 hrs depending on the depth of treatment. Day 3 you will experience a tight, dry sensation with severe flaking. During this time darkening within the skin may occur before flaking. Mild breakouts can also be experienced due to the stimulation of the treatment.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE THIS TREATMENT?

Ideally, Cosmelan and Dermamelan is a one off treatment with a 87% success rate. It is recommended to have 1 per calendar year if pigmentation persists. Depending on your skin and the condition you are treating, this may change. You will be advised accordingly by your clinician.
